Tent City - Light Design

Light Designer Celestino Munoz

Nothing would properly function in the illumination control center without the
assistance of computers. The guests want quality - also when it concerns
the lighting. High Tech has become an attraction in largest circus in Europe.

Light Designer Celestino Munoz

computer-aided lighting system Two computers,
two switch boxes
and 170.000 Watts.

The Portuguese is a trained
electrical engineer and light design
technician. For six years he has
controlled the computer-aided lighting
system at Circus Krone. His position
is the fulfillment of a dream.
Tino's workshop place resembles
the cockpit of an airplane. Nestled
between hundreds of switches,
buttons, and sliders numerous
yellow and red small lamps are
flashing. Out of electronic switch
boxes, as large as wardrobe closet,
comes the steady of the ventilators.

However, he doesn't have much room. The largest portion of his barely five-square-
meters-sized cabin is occupied by his equipment. There is only sufficient room for
the rotating seat from which he controls his instruments. Using his headset, Tino
Munoz directs six lighting technicians and with his mixer unit he controls 140 light
devices and nine scanners for further special effects.

He observes the correct operation and staging of the programmed light to ensure
the proper lighting effects. He always has to be reachable for the director, should a
problem arise. His most horrifying nightmare would be, if the complete lighting and
the emergency lighting were to break down during a wild animal performance and
the trainers were to become lost without knowing where the animals are situated.

His avowed goal:
"the best light direction for the best artists in the world"
is to be seen at Circus Krone.

Tino Munoz is married to Tania Jahn-Munoz
The former air-acrobat is a descendant of the famous "Turnvater Jahn".
