Gene Kelly
(USA / choreographer)

He danced with Marilyn Monroe, did the tap-dance with Gene Kelly and made some music movies with
Marika Rökk.
He has helped Margot Werner to get the cutout, made Judy Winter to a musical star and
he taught Harald Juhnke the attributes of an entertainer. The talk is of Gene Reed, the exceptional
choreographer at the movies, TV and theatre who is responsible for the Krone Ballet.

Behaviour is some kind of strange to him. He stayed
modestly in his mind, his behaviour and his judgments.

Gene Reed is a world star and at home on
all stages of the globe. The creator of many
show at Broadway or Las Vegas was born
on August, 25th 1935 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
He startet his career as a dancer in New York,
was celebrated as a dance genius and today
he's a globetrotter in the area of choreography.

Since six years he's
working exclusively for
Circus Krone, the "Rolls
Royce among the Circus
enterprises", how he calls
the Munich tradition
company.

Gene Reed is a talent
by nature. For him,
the joy in dancing
has been put into
his cradle. "I brought
it from another life",
he tells us in nearly
perfect German.
If only the American
accent wouldn't be there.

According to his card
he claims to be 65 years
"One year younger than
Elvis", he remarks.
"65 years and a little
more thicker." He
taps on his belly.

With 15, he stood on stage at the first time, with 19 he came to Las Vegas and in 1958 (one
year after Elvis) to Ulm as a soldier. From there, he went to Paris where he did his first large
choreography and where he got an offer from Germany. Together with Irene Mann he was
the boss of the TV Ballet and made the choreographies for the legendary TV Shows of
Peter Frankenfeld, Peter Alexander, Catarina Valente, Joachim Fuchsberger und Harald
Juhnke. During a visit at the greatest Circus in Europe he found his love to circus and brought
the 14-headed Show Ballet to perfection, to a troupe "
appreciate to the Moulin Rouge",
as written once by a critic. The girls come from Hungary, Russia, Poland and Switzerland.
"We do it by this", Gene Reed points to his hands and feet.
All discipline always has left him
obligatorily and he takes care for good atmosphere in the team at every time. This motivates.
At Krone he fulfills himself a dream. "Quantity and quality are correct here." His rehearsals
let enough space for imagination. As a son of an Indian woman and an Irish man he lives in
Reno in the state Nevada, owns a house in Spain and is a temporarily Munich citizen by choice.
"I always have my Wigwam with me", Reed says. "I got this from my mother - she's a Cherokee."
For him it is not astonishing to feel at home in Reno as well as in Munich. He loves the people
here as well as there. To bring them beautiful hours has always been his aim. And so it shall
remain in future.
